Greetings, PAMFT members:
I am so excited to welcome you to the PAMFT website! This website is part of a larger branding campaign for MFTs—our hope is for “Marriage and Family Therapist” to become a household name. We want consumers, referral sources, and employers to know what makes MFTs special and why MFTs are often the right choice for their mental health care needs.
We also want our members to feel supported and encouraged by their professional organization. Our hope is that PAMFT can provide worthwhile and meaningful networking and training opportunities, as well as guidance and support during every phase of your career as an MFT.
I became involved in PAMFT when I, along with my husband and son, moved from San Diego, CA to PA in 2005, to be closer to extended family living on the East Coast. I had no professional connections and wanted to recreate the thriving private practice I had built in San Diego. PAMFT was an obvious place to meet other therapists and learn about the mental health world of PA. I met some wonderful colleagues and quickly found a professional home with other PAMFT members in Chester County. Part of my current private practice success comes from connections made through PAMFT. I have always had a tremendous amount of pride in my professional identity as an MFT and I am passionate about supporting other MFTs and growing the profession on the local, state and national level.
I hope to meet many of you at our annual conference in May 2015, at an AAMFT conference, or at any number of regional meetings held monthly across the state.
Shelby Riley, LMFT
